Istoriia Slavianobolgarskaia (Slavic-Bulgarian History) is the most influential work of Bulgarian cleric and historian Saint Paisius of Hilendar. Written in 1762, it is considered to be one of the first works of Bulgarian historiography. Paisi wrote Istoriia Slavianobolgarskaia in response to the foreign domination of Bulgaria by the Ottoman Empire and the cultural influence of Greece. He sought to awaken a sense of Bulgarian national identity and pride by recounting the history of the Bulgarian people, their rulers, saints, and cultural achievements. The book is a passionate appeal to Bulgarians to remember their glorious past and to resist assimilation into foreign cultures. It played a crucial role in the Bulgarian National Revival, inspiring generations of Bulgarians to fight for their independence and cultural preservation. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
