La fièvre aphteuse (FA) est une maladie virale hautement contagieuse causée par un aphthovirus de la famille des Picornaviridae. La présente étude a été conçue pour isoler le virus de la fièvre aphteuse et détecter ses sérotypes prédominants chez les bovins et les ovins dans les provinces du centre de l’Irak (AI-Diwaniyah, Bagdad, Babil, Al-Najaf et Karbala) à l’aide de techniques de culture tissulaire, d’ELISA et de PCR en temps réel. Elle visait également à étudier certains aspects cliniques et épidémiologiques de la maladie. Elle s’est déroulée entre octobre 2011 et mai 2012. Des échantillons buccaux, de tissus des pieds et œsophago-pharyngés ont été prélevés sur des bovins et des ovins cliniquement malades, puis comparés à ceux de témoins.
