A irrigação endodôntica tem como objetivo a desinfeção eficaz do canal radicular, complementando a instrumentação mecânica através da remoção de detritos, bactérias, biofilmes e a camada de smear layer de áreas inacessíveis às limas. Um irrigante ideal deve ser antimicrobiano, dissolver o tecido orgânico/inorgânico, remover a smear layer e ser biocompatível; no entanto, nenhuma solução única satisfaz todos estes critérios, pelo que é frequentemente utilizada uma combinação. Este livro explora os vários irrigantes atualmente utilizados em endodontia e também elabora diferentes técnicas de ativação, tais como a irrigação ultra-sónica passiva e os sistemas de pressão negativa, que melhoram a eficácia do irrigante.
