A nanoquímica é um subcampo emergente da química e da ciência dos materiais. Esta ciência lida com as propriedades únicas associadas a colecções de átomos ou moléculas à escala nanométrica (1-100 nm). As propriedades atómicas e moleculares dizem principalmente respeito aos graus de liberdade dos átomos na tabela periódica, mas a nanoquímica introduz graus de liberdade adicionais que controlam o comportamento dos materiais à medida que transitam para o estado de solução. A tecnologia acima referida trata do desenvolvimento de novos métodos para criar materiais à nanoescala. Para resolver problemas actuais, esta tecnologia provoca comportamentos diferentes dos comportamentos normais e esperados dessa substância. Normalmente, esta ciência não existe isoladamente, mas trabalha em conjunto com a nanofísica, a nanobiologia, a nanoelectrónica, os nanomateriais e a não-manufatura. Estas ciências são coletivamente conhecidas como nanotecnologia ou nanociência. Na química nanotecnológica, o objetivo é fazer mais com menos.
