É importante estudar a interação do vento solar com a magnetosfera porque esta interação controla os fenómenos meteorológicos espaciais. A capacidade de desenvolver previsões precisas do tempo espacial depende muito de o meteorologista ter uma boa compreensão do funcionamento da magnetosfera, ou seja, de ter um paradigma correto. É pouco provável que o empirismo, por si só, produza modelos de previsão exactos. O objetivo do estudo é investigar a relação solar e terrestre com base nos acontecimentos ocorridos durante o ciclo de atividade solar 23. Foi observado que a taxa de ocorrência de eventos geoeficazes foi bastante elevada durante o período de estudo selecionado e que estes eventos produziram o seu impacto na variação do campo geomagnético, modulando-o para níveis significativos. Os eventos de atividade solar, que se verificou serem mais geo-eficazes em comparação com as expulsões normais de plasma do vento solar, são aqui propostos para estudo a curto e a longo prazo. As tempestades geomagnéticas são responsáveis por danos nos satélites, falhas nas comunicações, falta de energia e perigo de vida. O desafio atual da investigação sobre o clima espacial consiste em prever quantitativamente a dinâmica da magnetosfera.
