He feels that God ''dislikes religion. / And settles for the spirit.'' God is not formulaic. He is love. Love is not codification. It is free spirit.David feels God’s presence when he is alone. He does not like gatherings for prayer because he wants to have his own direct connection with God. He does not read the Bible. He is the Bible. He is God’s text. He is written. God is or isn’t the pen.He is a Doubting Thomas but he doesn’t doubt that he feels a cosmic presence within him.
