Viele verkehrsbezogene Probleme treten aufgrund von Verkehrssteuerungssystemen an Kreuzungen auf , die feste Signalzeitgeber verwenden. Dasvorgeschlagene System stellt die Grünsignalzeit adaptiv entsprechend der Verkehrsdichte am Signal ein und stellt sicher, dass die Richtung mit mehr Verkehr ein grünes Signal für eine längere Zeitspanne erhält als die Richtung mit weniger Verkehr. Dadurch werden unerwünschte Verspätungen verringert und Staus und Wartezeiten reduziert , was wiederum den Kraftstoffverbrauch und die Umweltverschmutzung verringert.
