Este projeto explora a integração de materiais de mudança de fase (PCMs) em painéis fotovoltaicos (PV) para melhorar a sua regulação térmica e desempenho geral. Os PCMs absorvem e libertam calor latente durante as transições de fase, ajudando a manter temperaturas de funcionamento óptimas, o que, por sua vez, reduz as flutuações térmicas e melhora a eficiência eléctrica das células solares. A conceção e o fabrico de um sistema PV-PCM integrado são acompanhados por uma análise experimental, com resultados que mostram que a integração de PCM pode baixar as temperaturas do painel PV em 10-20°C, levando a um aumento de 5-15% na eficiência e a um prolongamento da vida útil do painel devido à redução do stress do ciclo térmico. Embora subsistam desafios como a degradação dos PCM, a baixa condutividade térmica e a viabilidade económica, as potenciais soluções incluem a utilização de PCM reforçados com nanopartículas e sistemas de arrefecimento híbridos. Esta tecnologia oferece um caminho promissor para sistemas de energia solar mais eficientes, fiáveis e sustentáveis.
