A group of us created Indy Untitled to showcase writers in Indianapolis. There is a flourishing, growing literary scene happening here and every single one of you is a part of it. Whether you attend our workshops, participate in our prompts, read with us or come to any of the many open mics in Indianapolis, or even if you’re purchasing this zine and hearing about us for the first time, you’re a part of it. I believe in a literary revolution. I believe firmly that writing changes the world, and I believe we can see that happening in Indianapolis. Right here. Right now. We’ve seen Kurt Vonnegut do it. We’ve seen Etheridge Knight do it. We’ve seen James Whitcomb Riley do it. Indianapolis has never had a shortage of extraordinary writers-at most it’s had a shortage of extraordinary opportunities. As a collective we have heard and shared stages with hundreds of poets and writers just as amazing as those mentioned. Their work deserves to be printed, to be seen, and most importantly to be uplifted. These poems we write are not just a collection of thoughts, feelings, and expressions. They are the foundation on which we build our community. You speak; we all listen. You write, we all read it. Those moments forge us together into something greater because we are beginning to hear outside of ourselves - for some of us for the first time. We write. We dream. We hope. Through compassion, care and dedication we continue to build a legacy that started long before us - for Indianapolis to be the literary hub it deserves to be. For all our writers to be a part of it. Our hometown pride is strong because our community is strong. It starts with putting pen to paper, to attending events, to working alongside us directly or indirectly - we are all building this revolution one open mic, one workshop, one zine, one poem at a time. So thank you all for believing in us, believing in yourselves and participating in the literary revolution!

  • Polishing the Silver
    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

  • The Truth about A
    Maureen O'Shaughnessy
In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides.
