Cet ouvrage est le fruit d’une collaboration entre l’Agence brésilienne de coopération internationale, le CNPq, l’Embrapa, le gouvernement du Cap-Vert, le GOPA, l’UFF et l’UFPR. Il avait pour objectif de former des techniciens capverdiens afin qu’ils puissent mettre en œuvre un programme d’insémination artificielle (IA) ; de déterminer un protocole d’IA permettant la diffusion génétique dans toutes les îles de l’archipel ; de procéder à une première diffusion génétique ; de structurer un centre de collecte et de manipulation de sperme caprin ; et d’évaluer la viabilité de l’utilisation de sperme caprin dilué dans un milieu Tris-Gema 2,5 %, refroidi à 5 °C et stocké pendant 24 ou 48 heures. Le contexte du projet, ses implications dans le système d’élevage caprin laitier, ainsi que son impact sur les plans social, environnemental et économique sont également abordés.
