O AVC é, para todos os efeitos, a manifestação de uma doença vascular cerebral, e as suas consequências são variadas e dependem da extensão e localização da lesão do tecido nervoso (Cambier et al, 2005). A finalidade do processo de reabilitação passa pela minimização do impacto do AVC quer para a vítima, quer para o seu cuidador. Face a este enquadramento, a investigação pretendeu identificar níveis de independência funcional do doente pós AVC bem como a sua correlação com as variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas, comparando a independência funcional da admissão com a alta.
