A livello globale, gli incendi sono la seconda fonte di emissioni di gas serra. Un passo importante per ridurre l’impatto degli incendi è studiare la suscettibilità di un determinato ambiente alla combustione o addirittura alla diffusione del fuoco (rischio di incendio). Data la necessità di comprendere le possibili implicazioni dei cambiamenti della circolazione atmosferica nel prossimo futuro, questo studio si propone di analizzare la suscettibilità dell’ambiente al verificarsi di incendi, sulla base di due indici di rischio di incendio (Indice di Haines (HI) e Indice di Setzer (SI)). A tal fine, i dati di modellazione numerica del modello ECHAM5/MPI-OM e i dati delle rianalisi NCEP sono utilizzati per calcolare questi indici per due periodi: quello attuale (1980-2000) e le proiezioni climatiche per la fine del secolo (2080-2100). Il confronto tra i risultati proposti dall’IH e dall’IS mostra che la metodologia di Setzer intensifica il livello di rischio massimo. In condizioni di riscaldamento globale (GW), è stato osservato un aumento dell’area di rischio, soprattutto per la regione amazzonica in entrambi i set di dati.
