McCauley is a retired commercial fisherman with over 60 years of experience on the water. He was the owner/operator of two trawlers, the F/V Jerry & Jimmy and the F/V Alliance, and worked throughout his career representing the interests of area fishermen. McCauley is an author, lecturer and former Assistant Professor at the University of Rhode Island.
