Es ist dies ein el’freulicher Beweis dafür, dass das Streben nach einer ernsten und gründ­ lichen naturwissenschaftlichen Bildung sich in im­ mer weiteren Kreisen geltend macht. In der That hat es Tyndall auch verstanden, die schwierigsten Probleme der Wissenschaft in aller Strenge und zugleich vollkommen populär vorzutragen. Dieselbe Verknüpfung von Eigenschaften ver­ leiht auch dem vorliegenden Werke einen beson­ dern Reiz. Wie der Verfasser mit grossem Erfolge die Erfahrungen des Laboratoriums auf die Erklä­ rung der Phänomene der Gletscherwelt angewendet hat, so sucht er auch sonst in allen, ihm entgegen­ tretenden Erscheinungen stets das wissenschaft­ liche Princip zu erkennen.
