Development cooperation is a rather young field, which emerged only afterWorld War II with the introduction of the Marshall Plan in an effort to aidWestern Europe’s recovery. Unfortunately, poverty today is as widespread asever and the gap between wealthy developed countries and poor developingcountries is still widening. One frequent criticism is that there is an insufficientamount of money that is spent on development cooperation for it to besuccessful. Yet there are many more problems and challenges involved whichneed to be addressed. This book identifies areas development cooperationneeds to focus upon in order to be effective and calls for a global developmentstrategy as the only way to bundle capital and expertise in the mostefficient way. Development cooperation can be a success, with a global effortof all partners involved, a global reorganization of the development businessand a refocus on key development areas, so that developing countries can beprovided with a solid basis to grow out of poverty. Offering a solid analysis ofdevelopment cooperation, this book provides useful to everybody interestedin the topic: from people working in development cooperation to researchersand politicians.
