Este livro desenvolve um certo número de pontos que evidenciam a introdução do Islão e do seu direito na África subsariana.É de salientar que o direito islâmico se enraizou na África Subsariana sem ab-rogar o direito ancestral típico de África, com o qual coexiste em perfeita harmonia. Assim, o objetivo da lei islâmica não era apagar os costumes jurídicos africanos em seu próprio benefício, mas sim integrar novos princípios que valorizassem a parte viva e enriquecedora da cultura africana. Na África subsariana, existem várias escolas jurídicas conhecidas em árabe literário como 'al-Madhâhib al-Fiqhiyya'. Entre estas escolas jurídicas, Seybou DJIBO citou as escolas sunitas como o hanafismo, o malikismo, o shafi’ismo, o hanbalismo e o wahhabismo, tão temido, talvez devido à sua ideologia, que alguns descrevem como arcaica, retrógrada e hermeticamente fechada. Citou igualmente as escolas kharidjitas, como o Ibadismo, e as escolas xiitas, como o Imâmismo, o Ismailismo, o Khôdja e o Bohorâ, muito difundidas, nomeadamente na África Oriental.
