This work is an analysis of the preoperative guidance provided by nurses to cardiac surgical patients. It shows that there needs to be a connection between nurse and patient, where the nurse’s role is health education, aiming for individualized and comprehensive care for each client. It is understood that the aim of the preoperative nursing visit and its guidelines is to provide the patient with knowledge, peace of mind and safety, with a view to their well-being, as well as contributing to the success of the surgery and obtaining the patient’s active participation in their rehabilitation, thus minimizing postoperative complications.
