Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) is one of the most common overuse injuries affecting runners, cyclists, and athletes involved in repetitive knee flexion and extension activities. It occurs when the iliotibial band (IT band), a thick fibrous band of connective tissue extending from the hip to the outer side of the knee, becomes irritated and inflamed as it repeatedly rubs against the lateral femoral epicondyle during movement.
