Il presente testo tratta delle relazioni tra il popolare e il colto nella raccolta di poesie Hora aberta (2003) di Gilberto Mendonça Teles. Per quanto riguarda il popolare, spiccano i personaggi Saci e Camonge. È con loro che l’artista cerca di creare una nuova estetica per le poesie scritte a partire dal libro Saciologia goiana (1982). Questi personaggi, uno proveniente dal folklore brasiliano e l’altro dalla letteratura cordel, sono stati scelti per comporre due maschere utilizzate per nascondere le vere sfaccettature di un critico letterario, lo stesso Teles. Per quanto riguarda il colto, troviamo Camões, che dialoga tra Europa e Brasile. Anche Goiás e il sertão vengono esplorati, poiché contribuiscono a comporre la dicotomia popolare/colto.
