Il saggio affronta il problema del tempo attraverso un’analisi svolta a partire da una concezione esistenzialista per giungere, tramite l’apporto di contributi mutuati dalla fisica, ad un neo-umanesimo ove il tempo percepito, pur risentendo della sua naturale fisicità, acquista le caratteristiche strutturali e funzionali della psicologia. L’uomo non subisce più esclusivamente un fluire temporale così come ogni altro essere, ma è in grado di agire nel tempo, di determinare le sue azioni e il suo futuro attraverso l’intenzionalità volontaria. L’autore analizza diverse situazioni, prendendo contributi dalla narrativa e dalla poesia per giungere ad una visione unificata del tempo psicologico che possa mettere in evidenza il suo naturale dispiegarsi, rispetto ai diversi comportamenti caratteristici della psicopatologia.
