Considerata da alcuni come universalmente valida, la dottrina della guerriglia di Mao Zedong non era ancora stata messa alla prova in questo secolo. I guerriglieri nepalesi utilizzarono la dottrina di Mao per conquistare la carica di Primo Ministro, partendo da una potenza di combattimento quasi nulla. Tuttavia, man mano che il loro potere e la loro influenza politica crescevano, mentre una vittoria militare completa sull’esercito reale si rivelava irrealizzabile, decisero di ammorbidire i concetti del leader cinese, rinunciando a importanti concetti maoisti come l’imposizione di un regime a partito unico. Il presente lavoro descrive quindi inizialmente i principali aspetti storici, economici, politici e sociali del conflitto nepalese. Esamina poi la struttura e la strategia utilizzata dai maoisti nepalesi. Esamina poi alcune critiche attuali alla dottrina di Mao. Infine, conclude sull’uso della dottrina della guerriglia di Mao Zedong in Nepal.
