L’ex Papa Rosso si è trovato al centro di scandali e di pratiche molto terrene come l’aver raccomandato i suoi nipoti. Nel 2010 i magistrati lo metteranno sotto accusa per corruzione. Con lui anche l’ex ministro alle Infrastrutture Pietro Lunardi, l’ex provveditore Angelo Balducci oltre a imprenditori, manager e funzionari dello Stato. Personaggi che saranno l’architrave della cosiddetta 'cricca' dei Grandi Eventi. La Chiesa di Sepe è lacerata, divisa, sfiduciata. Molti considerano la sua missione napoletana al capolinea. L’alto prelato, dal canto suo, vorrebbe coronare la carriera che l’ha visto per 30 anni al fianco di un Santo, Papa Giovanni II, rientrando dalla porta principale del Vaticano. Un’aspirazione destinata a restare tale. È Papa Francesco a sbarrare quella porta.
