Este libro recoge lo sucedido en las primeras cuatro ediciones de los Encuentros Nacionales de Historia Iglesia Católica y Nacionalidad Cubana. Hasta ahora, se han celebrado cinco eventos. Los Encuentros nacieron en 1995 en Camagüey y fueron reconocidos por la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Cuba. Por primera vez, la Iglesia católica cubana asumió un proyecto de tal magnitud, estudiando sistemáticamente su rol en la formación y desarrollo de la nación, con el objetivo de profundizar en su pasado, iluminar el presente y proyectar el futuro.El primero se celebró en 1996 en Camagüey, sede permanente. El programa inicial incluyó una amplia gama de temas relacionados con la Iglesia y la nacionalidad cubana. El segundo evento, en 1998, tuvo lugar en Santiago de Cuba con motivo del 275 aniversario del Seminario San Basilio Magno, centrado en la educación católica en Cuba. El tercer Encuentro fue en el año 2000, reflexionando sobre la cultura y pensamiento católico. En 2002, el cuarto evento abordó la obra social de la Iglesia en Cuba, y en 2004, el quinto Encuentro trató sobre la familia cubana. El sexto evento, previsto para 2006, marcará diez años desde el inicio de este ciclo reflexivo. Esperamos seguir publicando las Memorias de estos Encuentros. Intelectuales católicos y otros participaron en estos valiosos encuentros, interrumpidos por las difíciles circunstancias en la Isla.This book compiles the outcomes of the first four editions of the National History Meetings 'Catholic Church and Cuban Nationality.' To date, five events have been held. The Encuentros began in 1995 in Camagüey and were recognized by the Conference of Cuban Catholic Bishops. For the first time, the Cuban Catholic Church undertook a project of this scope, systematically studying its role in the nation’s formation and development, aiming to deepen knowledge of the past, enlighten the present, and plan for the future.The first Encuentro was held in 1996 in Camagüey, the permanent venue. The initial program covered a broad range of topics related to the Church and Cuban nationality. The second event, in 1998, took place in Santiago de Cuba to celebrate the 275th anniversary of the 'Saint Basil the Great' Seminary, focusing on Catholic education in Cuba. The third Encuentro in 2000 explored Catholic culture and thought. The fourth event in 2002 discussed the Church’s social work in Cuba, and the fifth, in 2004, focused on the Cuban family. The sixth event is scheduled for 2006, marking ten years of this reflective journey. We hope to continue publishing the Memoirs of these Encuentros. Many Cuban Catholic intellectuals and others have participated in these valuable gatherings, which have been interrupted by the challenging circumstances on the Island.
