O objetivo do poeta britânico Alfred Tennyson ao compor os Idílios do Rei era conduzir o leitor a um universo lendário no qual coragem e traição se intercalassem em uma jornada emocionante. Escrito entre 1859 e 1885, o livro compreende 12 poemas épicos que descrevem a trajetória do lendário Rei Arthur e sua Távola Redonda.
