Les écoles sont un lieu important de socialisation sexuelle. Cependant, en raison de leur structure hétéronormative, elles ne prennent pas suffisamment en compte les besoins des élèves homosexuels. L’homophobie et la discrimination créent un climat dans lequel les élèves doivent former leur identité sexuelle et trouver leur place à l’école au cours du processus de coming out. Les études menées jusqu’à présent mettent en lumière la situation actuelle des jeunes dans leur quotidien scolaire. On sait peu de choses sur le soutien qu’ils souhaitent recevoir et l’aide dont ils bénéficient réellement. Cinq enseignants homosexuels qui enseignent dans des établissements secondaires parlent de leur situation actuelle sur leur lieu de travail, de leur coming out, de la situation des élèves homosexuels d’aujourd’hui, du soutien dont ils ont besoin et de l’aide qu’ils leur apportent.
