Animals have tails of all kinds. Some are long and bumpy. Others are, well, stumpy. They may be made of scales or feathers that vary in color...or it may be bushy and furry and have an odor. And tails can do many things. Swish. Paddle. Shake and rattle. They look like such fun! But, as questioned in this book, 'Why don’t I have one?' Using bright, colorful, cartoon-style illustrations, this book encourages young children to recognize the different types of tails animals have and the things they can do. It also inspires curiosity by having the reader ask periodically throughout why they don’t have a tail. And, in the end, after much exasperation in questioning the lack of a tail, the reader gets to exclaim the wish: 'I want a tail, too!'With rhyming text and simple words, this children’s picture book provides an entertaining resource for teaching young children early reading skills and building initial vocabulary. It is appropriate for children in the 3- to 8-year-old age range. Heather M. Thompson grew up in Sutherland, Nebraska and currently lives in Bainbridge Island, Washington. She is a self-published children’s book author interested in writing creative and humorous children’s books that get young children excited about reading, learning, and imagining what may be.
