Ugo Mioni, sacerdote, pubblicista e fecondo scrittore, nacque a Trieste nel 1870. Morì a Montepulciano (SI) nel 1935. A Trieste istituì il circolo cattolico 'Contardo Ferrini' e fu tra i promotori del settimanale diocesano 'Vita nuova'. Gli stessi motivi apologetici del cristianesimo e didattici, intesi a mostrare l’esemplarità del cristiano come cittadino, che animarono mons. Mioni giornalista, si ritrovano condensati nel libro. E gli stessi numerosi sogni che l’anarchico protagonista del romanzo si trova a 'vivere' nella notte di Natale altro non sono che un messaggio in tal senso ripetuto, unico, sempre lo stesso nonostante le variazioni di ambientazione storica ed il ruolo di volta in volta assunto.
