I Sepolcri è un carme di Ugo Foscolo, composto tra l’agosto e il settembre 1806 e pubblicato nel 1807. L’opera, scritta in endecasillabi sciolti, affronta il tema della morte, della memoria e del valore civile delle tombe. Il testo risponde a una duplice esigenza: da un lato, polemizzare con le posizioni materialistiche e antireligiose espresse nel decreto napoleonico di Saint-Cloud (1804), che imponeva l’inumazione dei defunti fuori dalle mura cittadine e regolamentava le epigrafi sulle lapidi; dall’altro, celebrare il valore affettivo e ideale del culto dei morti, inteso come legame tra passato, presente e futuro.
