Opere letterarie come Momo, La storia infinita, Harry Potter, Hunger Games e altre simili dimostrano chiaramente che i libri per bambini e ragazzi non sono più destinati esclusivamente ai giovani lettori. Questi libri - rivolti in primo luogo al pubblico giovane - compaiono regolarmente nelle classifiche dei bestseller, ma non nella sezione dedicata ai libri per bambini e ragazzi, bensì in quella della narrativa, il cui pubblico è composto prevalentemente, se non esclusivamente, da adulti. In particolare, il genere distopico ha vissuto negli ultimi anni un vero e proprio boom nella letteratura e nel cinema. Ma perché sempre più spesso anche i lettori adulti scelgono libri che in realtà sono rivolti a bambini e adolescenti? Per avvicinarci alla risposta a questa domanda, in questo lavoro viene preso come oggetto di studio il romanzo per ragazzi 'Die Wolke' di Gudrun Pausewang del 1987.
