Both Vinny Hunter and Kim Nicol had resigned from being head of the Scottish Borders Police Force.An encounter with a serial killer who had used the Borders as his own personal killing field had taken its toll on Vinny in particular.He had started his own private detective agency along with a young girl he had met through his work in the force.His partner Kim was finding it hard to get a job working with horses until a message was left on their answering machine which led to a new beginning for her.
