Il tema principale di quest’opera è l’analisi del ruolo dei tedeschi nella costituzione politica del Rio Grande do Sul durante il periodo di transizione politica tra la monarchia e la repubblica. Il periodo di analisi dei fatti è delimitato agli anni Ottanta e Novanta del XIX secolo, con il punto nevralgico nell’anno 1891, anno delle elezioni costituzionali nel Rio Grande do Sul. Il risultato alle urne ha dimostrato il carattere oppositivo dei politici delle aree di immigrazione tedesca. Si cerca così di dimostrare che il ruolo dei Deutsch-Brasilianer non fu solo quello di semplici spettatori o comprimari, ma quello di attori decisivi nella formazione di congiunture politiche di grandi scontri politici, arrivando persino a sfidare il progetto egemonico partitico stabilito dal Partido Republicano Riograndense - PRR, di Júlio de Castilhos.
