O objectivo desta investigação é estudar os efeitos da hidroterapia-Halliwick no sistema respiratório de crianças diagnosticadas com Paralisia Cerebral. Este estudo envolveu a participação de dez crianças diagnosticadas com paralisia cerebral, com idades compreendidas entre os cinco e os quinze anos de idade. Crianças inscritas no programa hidroterapêutico-Halliwick uma vez por semana durante 45 minutos. A função do seu sistema respiratório foi medida por meio de espirómetro, fluxómetro e oxímetro. Além disso, o formulário de avaliação SWIM da Associação Internacional Halliwick foi preenchido pelo investigador. Além disso, mais dois formulários de avaliação foram preenchidos pelo investigador, o Teste de Orientação da Água Alyn 1-2 (WOTA1, WOTA2). Um pré-teste foi realizado no início do programa e um pós-teste no final do programa. Nove crianças concluíram o estudo com sucesso, enquanto que apenas uma criança foi excluída devido a uma reacção alérgica. Os resultados indicam alterações na função pulmonar, mas não foram observadas diferenças estatisticamente significativas após a avaliação exaustiva dos questionários. A hidroterapia resultou em efeitos positivos sobre o sistema respiratório de crianças com Paralisia Cerebral.
