Hrvati pravoslavci oduvijek bili i ostali dio hrvatskog naroda. Karlovačka arhiepiskopija dobila je autokefalnost od Carigradske patrijaršije godine 1707. i postojala je više od 200 godina. Sa sjedištem u Srijemskim Karlovcima bila je zapravo pravoslavna Crkva u Hrvatskoj, odnosno suvremenije - Hrvatska pravoslavna Crkva. Njen poglavar nosio je titulu Patrijarh Hrvatske. Najdublje skrivena tajna u suvremenoj demokratskoj Hrvatskoj jest ona da je nekoć postojala pravoslavna vjeroispovijest i pravoslavna Crkva u Hrvata. Zapravo, većina stručnjaka to i ne zna, jer vjeruje samo ono što je učila u školi i na sveučilištu, po krivotvorenom komunističkom obrascu. U Republici Hrvatskoj i danas prema popisu stanovništva postoje Hrvati pravoslavne vjeroispovijesti, koji nemaju svoju Hrvatsku pravoslavnu Crkvu. Patrijarh Nikolas І. dodijelio autokefalnost Hrvatskoj pravoslavnoj Crkvi potpisivanjem Tomosa dana 1. prosinca 2013., dok vlast u Hrvatskoj izbjegava njezinu registraciju.
