Honest Liberty in the Church

'Honest Liberty in the Church' presents a comprehensive record of the proceedings from the fiftieth anniversary of the Church Congress in the United States, held in 1924. Edited by Charles Lewis Slattery, this volume captures a pivotal moment in American religious history, documenting the intellectual and spiritual debates that shaped the Episcopal Church and broader Christian thought during the early twentieth century. The collection features papers and discussions on a wide range of topics, including the application of Christian principles to social problems, the evolution of theological interpretation, and the delicate balance between tradition and individual conscience within the ecclesiastical structure. As a historical document, 'Honest Liberty in the Church' offers valuable insights into the era’s theological landscape, highlighting the voices of prominent clergy and laypeople who sought to address the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Scholars of religious history and those interested in the development of liberal thought within the church will find this record an indispensable resource for understanding the foundations of modern religious discourse. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
