You have not known terror until you have seen your neighbor shot and you watch the assassin turn and point his weapon at you. There are no words to describe the fear of a human being stalked by a hijacking terrorist, but Shaffi makes a great effort. The torment of the passengers aboard Pan Am Flight 073 forces its way into the pit of our stomach. The Arab terrorists who hijacked this aircraft at the Karachi International Airport did not discriminate between Arabs and non-Arabs in their desperation to be heard, and the hijacking itself is but a symbol of the underlying hatred and unease that pervades the world. This is a book not to be missed, due to the sheer power of the event itself. Shaffi also uses this hijacking, this frightening and yet, in the end, useless gesture to make his plea for a peaceful existence in the world and particularly in the Middle East.
