O Co2(OH)3Cl foi preparado através de um processo de sol-gel simples e num único recipiente. São utilizados dois solventes diferentes, etilenoglicol e glicerol, para a síntese. As amostras resultantes são estudadas quanto à sua morfologia, estrutura e estabilidade eletroquímica durante o ciclo. A amostra com etilenoglicol como solvente apresenta uma morfologia xerogel tridimensional porosa interligada, enquanto a amostra com glicerol apresenta uma estrutura nanoparticulada cristalina e não porosa. A capacitância específica do Co2(OH)3Cl preparado com etilenoglicol é de 434 F/g, quando os eléctrodos são submetidos a ciclos em KOH 3 M a uma corrente específica de 2 A/g e com glicerol é de 252 F/g.
