Hid In The Cevennes: Or The Mountain Refuge is a novel written by the Religious Tract Society and first published in 1882. The story is set in the Cevennes region of France during the 17th century, a time of religious persecution and conflict between the Huguenots (French Protestants) and the Catholic Church. The protagonist of the story is a young Huguenot girl named Marie, who is forced to flee her home and seek refuge in the mountains after her family is targeted by Catholic soldiers. Marie is aided in her escape by a group of Huguenot rebels, who take her to a hidden mountain refuge where she is safe from the soldiers. As Marie adjusts to life in the mountain refuge, she becomes involved in the rebel’s resistance efforts against the Catholic Church. She also falls in love with a young Huguenot man named Pierre, who is one of the leaders of the resistance. The novel explores themes of religious persecution, faith, love, and courage in the face of adversity. It also provides a glimpse into the history of the Huguenots and the conflicts that shaped France during the 17th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
