Sie gilt als eine der Begründerinnen des historischen Romans in Deutschland. Aus dem Buch: „Herzog Johann, war klug genug, seiner Tochter an diesem traurigen Feste nicht von der Seite zu gehen, und da es ihm unmöglich gewesen war, sie zu einer zerstreuenden Theilnahme an dem Geräusch der Hochzeitfreude zu bewegen, so theilte er ihre Einsamkeit mitten in der zahlreichsten Versammlung mit ihr, hörte ihre Klagen, hörte das Bekenntniß ihrer innersten Gedanken nachsichtsvoll an, und lenkte sie durch weise Rathschläge auf den Weg, welcher nunmehr der einzige war, den sie zu gehen hatte. Endlich, sagte er, endlich ist es Zeit, dich dieser quälenden Vorstellungen zu begeben.'
