Don Marquis was born in 1878 in Walnut, Illinois. Marquis was a novelist, poet, newspaper columnist and playwright. He is best remembered for creating the characters 'Archy' and 'Mehitabel'. Marquis wrote for the Saturday Evening Post and the New York Herald Tribune.
