This story is targeted to reach elementary age children (3rd, 4th, 5th graders). It concerns a small, curious owl named Sammi who reaches out from her home to communicate with owls in the big world. With the assistance of gulls and whales, Sammi send out a pen pal letter and received letters and pictures from owls outside her world.The primary theme in the book is about treating others with respect and not being afraid to ask for help when one can't accomplish something alone. Another theme is recognizing and acknowledging the support one receives from others. By the end of the story, children learn that owls live on every continent except Antarctica.Additional information about the owls in the story includes habitat, prey and size at the end of the book. Some of the owl's letters contain words and greetings from other languages and are explained in the letter's content. Children may be inspired to learn more about the diversity of owls around the world and find other pen pals for Sammi
