This book aims to investigate the level of health literacy among hypertensive and/or diabetic elderly people in the city of Oeiras-Piauí. It assumes that health literacy is one of the most important factors in determining the state of health of a society. Low health literacy is directly related to the difficulty of understanding and following the instructions provided by health specialists, greater disease aggravation, increased hospitalisation rates and less preventive care.
