Healing from the Relation of Incest examines one of the most difficult and often hidden forms of trauma: sexual abuse within family relationships. The book explores incest not simply as a prohibited sexual relationship, but as a profound violation of trust, safety, family roles, and personal boundaries. It considers the effects of power, dependency, secrecy, betrayal, and family dynamics while emphasizing the distinction between the person who caused harm and the person who experienced it.Moving beyond definitions, the book examines the long-term consequences that survivors may experience, including difficulties with trust, intimacy, anxiety, shame, relationships, and unresolved memories. It also considers the possibility of healing through professional treatment, supportive relationships, spirituality, education, community, and healthy boundaries.Particular attention is given to the role families can play after abuse is recognized. The book discusses accountability, rebuilding trust, creating safer family environments, and recognizing that healing does not necessarily require restoring every relationship. In some circumstances, distance and firm boundaries may be necessary for a survivor’s safety and well-being.The book also explores the complicated relationship between trauma and spirituality. It addresses the danger of forced forgiveness and emphasizes that forgiveness, if it becomes part of a survivor’s journey, must be voluntary. Forgiveness does not erase what happened, eliminate accountability, require renewed trust, or demand reconciliation.Ultimately, Healing from the Relation of Incest presents healing as a deeply personal journey. The goal is not to force survivors into one definition of recovery, but to recognize their right to determine what healing means for them.

Second, and closely related to the first tenet, man is not separable from his environment. We all share in this...
