In dieser Studie wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Flächennutzung und Straßenbetteln in der Stadt Ibadan, Nigeria, untersucht, wobei der Einfluss der Flächennutzung auf die Häufigkeit des Bettelns berücksichtigt wird. Außerdem werden die Akzeptanz von behinderten Bettlern in der Stadt und die Wahl der für sie attraktivsten Flächennutzungen untersucht. Es wurde festgestellt, dass die zunehmende Bedrohung der Menschheit in den Entwicklungsländern der Welt durch das Betteln auf der Straße für verschiedene Interessengruppen ein großes Problem darstellt. In Nigeria zum Beispiel stellt das Betteln auf der Straße ein großes Problem für das soziale, ökologische und wirtschaftliche Überleben des Landes dar. Dies liegt daran, dass Bettler manchmal von Unruhestiftern dazu benutzt werden, öffentliches Eigentum und Versorgungseinrichtungen, die mit den Ressourcen der Nation gebaut wurden, zu zerstören. Darüber hinaus wird die städtische und nationale Wirtschaft gebremst, da ein beträchtlicher Anteil der Bettler von den ohnehin schon überlasteten Arbeitskräften abhängig ist. Es müssen also alle Hände voll zu tun sein, um sicherzustellen, dass das Phänomen der Straßenbettelei im Keim erstickt wird.
