The book’s principal heroine is a plucky freelance journalist, a driven figure, inhabiting a world of her own. By force of her personality and her ruthless activism and critical attacks upon the highly corrupt regime, the Regency, never shrinking from danger, by using the power of the press and her own network of collaborators, she raises the awareness of the public to impending high treason. When the government signs a pact with Germany, all hell breaks loose with far flung consequences.
