Warum beschäftigt sich die Forschung so intensiv mit dieser Figur? Warum unterscheidet sie sich so sehr von den anderen Figuren des Nibelungenliedes? Warum empfindet man Sympathie für Hagen obwohl er doch der „Bösewicht' ist? Was war die Absicht des Autors? Dies sind Fragen die man sich als Leser des Nibelungenliedes automatisch stellt. Diese Arbeit soll einmal mehr den Charakter und die Funktion des Hagens von Tronje analysieren. Mithilfe ausführlicher Literatur habe ich den Versuch unternommen, ein Modell zu entwickeln, welches die Rolle und Funktion der Figur im damaligen Weltbild darstellen soll.
