Dies ist eine Studie über die mikrotonalen Aspekte von György Ligetis Hamburgischem Konzert (Hornkonzert), mit besonderem Bezug auf seine Beziehung zu dem amerikanischen Komponisten Harry Partch, aber auch zu Gérard Grisey und Claude Vivier. Die besondere Mischung aus gleichschwebend temperierter und reiner Intonation wird analysiert. Der Satz 'Choral' wird mit Harry Partchs Idee des 'tonality flux' konfrontiert. Das Werk wird mit der ihm innewohnenden langen Kette erforschender Gedankenformen in Ligetis kompositorischem Schaffen hinsichtlich der Mikrotonalität gezeigt. Die Viola-Solo-Sonate (1991-94) enthält im ersten Satz 'Hora lungă' eine für Ligeti neue Zeichenwelt für natürliche Intervalle. Diese Zeichen übernimmt er auch für das Hamburgische Konzert. In einem Anhang wird Ligeti selbst mit einigen seiner Ideen über Partch, Vivier und Mikrotonalität im Allgemeinen, in einem Interview und in mehreren seiner Schriften vorgestellt.
