Esta investigación no es precisamente sobre viajeros. Todo lo contrario, es sobre aquellos personajes silenciados por la historia de la literatura de viajes los cuales muchas veces son denominados como guías o baqueanos. Y es que viajar por el Nuevo Reino de Granada (actuales Colombia, Panamá, Venezuela y Ecuador) durante el siglo XVIII era más un acto de valentía que de contemplación. Por eso los baqueanos eran la brújula humana sobre el territorio de los viajeros europeos. Básicamente, contar con un buen guía era una cuestión de supervivencia debido a que ellos eran los que realmente conocían los caminos, los atajos, las propiedades de las plantas, además, muchas veces éstos les sirvieron a los viajeros de intérpretes, informantes y mediadores culturales. Fue de labios de baqueanos que el famoso viajero Alejandro de Humboldt conoció algunos de los secretos de la naturaleza americana. Se trata pues de una historia pocas veces contada pero que tiene hallazgos fascinantes e inesperados, acompáñenos en la lectura de esta atractiva investigación.
