El campus de la Universidad del Magdalena nos confirma cada día que es un oasis en medio de una selva urbana en la ciudad de Santa Marta. Es un lugar de refugio y alimento para animales como reptiles, anfibios, mamíferos y aves. También es un aula abierta que propicia procesos académicos e investigativos para conocer la biología y ecología del patrimonio biológico que se tiene y la importancia de conservarlo. Estos atributos convierten al campus como un escenario para diseñar estrategias divulgativas que permitan afianzar los procesos de enseñanza de la biodiversidad de la región Caribe y al mismo tiempo despertar en la sociedad un interés por mejorar su relación con el medio natural. Con lo anterior en mente, la Facultad de Ciencias Básicas presenta con humildad esta guía de identificación de las aves más predominantes que alberga el campus de la Universidad del Magdalena. Como un ejercicio pedagógico, describe las aves que pueden ser avistadas en cuatro áreas estratégicas: el Bosque Seco, el Lago, las canchas deportivas y la Granja Experimental. Se ilustran 30 piezas fotográficas de aves que se pueden observar en las instalaciones, incluyendo las de cinco nuevos registros de aves en el campus universitario. Además, cada ficha brinda una breve descripción de las especies, datos ecológicos relevantes y su estado de conservación. 10
