Questo studio cerca di esplorare i diversi stati del sé e il senso di sé tra gli individui affetti da dipendenza da sostanze durante le fasi di dipendenza attiva e recupero in Sudafrica. Uno degli obiettivi della ricerca è quello di accertare se vi sia o meno un cambiamento nel modo in cui i partecipanti vedono se stessi una volta che hanno ricevuto un trattamento per la dipendenza. Viene condotta un’analisi fenomenologica interpretativa utilizzando i resoconti forniti dai membri di Narcotics Anonymous South Africa sul sito web ufficiale dell’organizzazione. I risultati hanno mostrato un cambiamento parziale in alcuni aspetti dell’immagine di sé e del concetto di sé dei partecipanti durante le fasi di recupero.
