Ao aumentar a velocidade dos processadores através do aumento do número de núcleos, precisamos de sistemas operativos que utilizem todos os núcleos para realizar processos em paralelo. A presença de GPUs com muitos núcleos permite que os sistemas operativos enviem uma grande quantidade de cálculos para a GPU, aumentando assim o desempenho dos sistemas operativos. Por outro lado, durante muitos anos, os utilizadores voltaram-se para a segurança das suas informações. Neste livro, concebemos e implementamos um novo sistema de ficheiros seguro que utiliza GPU. O Sistema de Ficheiros Seguros baseado em GPGPU (GSFS), fornece integridade e confidencialidade dos dados. Permite também a partilha de informação entre os utilizadores, tornando os inodes acessíveis a diferentes utilizadores e permitindo também que os utilizadores expandam/reduzam o nível de acesso em cada ponto da estrutura em árvore dos inodes. Para além de representar uma nova estrutura segura e paralela para sistemas de ficheiros, nesta tese, utilizámos GPUs para potenciar os processos de encriptação/desencriptação.
